CIMAGE College Celebrates Satuani: Connecting Students with Bihar’s Cultural Heritage

Satuani is a traditional folk festival celebrated every year on the full moon day of the Chaitra month in Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This festival marks the beginning of the summer season and the change in weather. On this day, people consume cooling and nutritious food items like sattu (roasted gram flour), raw mango, jaggery, curd, lemon water, and cucumber, which help protect the body from heat and dehydration. Satuani is not just a day of healthy eating—it also reflects the values of folk tradition, purity, and cultural heritage.

In an effort to keep this beautiful tradition alive and connect students with their roots, CIMAGE College, Patna, celebrated the Satuani festival with great enthusiasm. The aim was to introduce students to the rich local culture and traditions of Bihar, helping them understand that true education includes cultural awareness along with academic learning.

On this special occasion, everyone present in the campus—students, visiting parents, and staff members—were served traditional sattu drinks. In today’s modern educational environment, witnessing a local festival like this was both refreshing and meaningful. The event promoted a balanced approach to life by integrating health, simplicity, and cultural pride.

College Director Dr. Neeraj Agarwal shared his thoughts on the occasion, saying, “We celebrate all major Indian festivals like Holi, Diwali, and Eid with great joy at our institution. But local festivals like Satuani, which are slowly fading from urban memory, are often unknown to today’s youth. That’s why we organized this event—to help the younger generation reconnect with Bihar’s cultural and folk traditions.”

His message underlined a significant point—education isn’t just about textbooks, but also about understanding and respecting our cultural heritage. Students actively participated in the celebration and expressed both surprise and happiness upon learning about this traditional festival for the first time.

Similar festivals are also celebrated in other parts of India, such as Baisakhi in Punjab, Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Vishu in Kerala, and Pana Sankranti in Odisha. All these festivals revolve around seasonal changes, nature, and harvest, teaching us the importance of living in harmony with nature.

Institutions like CIMAGE are setting a powerful example by promoting such cultural initiatives. When a folk festival like Satuani is celebrated within an educational setting, it transforms from a simple tradition into a valuable learning experience for the next generation. These efforts not only awaken cultural respect among students but also reconnect them with their identity, roots, and balanced way of life.
